- Cruise foods have evolved mediocre buffets and lukewarm hot dogs.
- Options like Teppanyaki, Italian and Mediterranean restaurants have become staples on board.
- I sailed eight ships – these are my six favorite restaurants on board.
Have food, will travel – even, or perhaps above all, if it is on a cruise.
I sailed on eight ships, which means that I had my just part of cruise food.
Before I started a party of pity, it is not as bad as it may seem.
It is over time of lukewarm hot dogs and non-seasoned burgers. Nowadays, attractive options such as Japanese Teppanyaki, Italian and Mediterranean restaurants have become cruising foods – sometimes at more affordable prices than land places.
Some of the best At-mer restaurants that I tried to serve the toasted octopus, jamón slices and full ribs that compete with costly steakhouses. Here are my six favorites, including a surprise choice.
Chicken Korma in the Norwegian Prima restaurant room

It is not one of these too expensive fashionable food rooms. Instead, the Norwegian delivery food room is at will, free and available on all prima class ships.
Say goodbye to the absolute buffet with a self-service lamp. At Deliver, customers can use digital screens at each table to order individual portions of seven suppliers.
The picking is as small as a few jamón slices on the tapas stand as large as the chicken biryani with Naan garlic to the Indian kiosk.
If the heavy cruise food is starting to reach you, opt for the salad and the garden soup. Otherwise, there are noodles, Latin barbecue, Texas and roasted stands – totaling around 50 main and lateral options.
I spent four complementary nights on the Norwegian prima in 2022. Despite my limited time, I returned to the food room several times, attracted by the various options, the practical control system and my desires for the Korma chicken at lunchtime.
Grilled sardines at Silver Ray’s Salt Kitchen
In Lisbon, the 160 -seat salt kitchen dishes included grilled sardines served with a grilled lemon corner and a small salad. Brittany Chang / Business Insider
If your travel plans revolve around the widening of your palette, come to Silver Ray’s Salt Kitchen.
The luxury SEL and LAND TASTE SELS program, all inclusive SILVERSEA (Sea and Land Taste) brings local dishes aboard its ships. As such, Silver Ray’s Salt Restaurant has two menus: one who remains coherent and another who changes almost daily depending on the destination.
I attended the free five -night test of the ship in Portugal and Spain in 2024. In Libson, aperitifs and dishes included tender grilled sardines and octopus. For dessert, guests could finish with TravelSiros, a popular sweet treat from Sirtra, in Portugal, nearby.
It can be difficult to immerse yourself in the destinations of your cruise when you are only at port for an afternoon. Salt Kitchen will not reproduce a local culinary experience, but that will give you at least a taste.
In addition, sardines were divine.
The restaurant is also available on Silver Nova, Dawn and Moon Ships.
Silver Ray’s silver ratings with silver note

If you are already on Silver Ray, consider reserving a table at the small family style note.
Yes, many fashionable and expensive terrestrial restaurants have transformed this concept of restoration into something to be deplored. However, it is not as common in sea – and it is not always served with a side of live music.
Throughout your dinner, a pianist and singer will serenade you with Frank Sinatra and Bill Withers Classics, creating an atmosphere of city jazz.
The lighting will be dark, the music will be good and the food will be luxurious enough.
Expect a fun plating, like vegetable dumplings in a heated stone-shaped bowl and a swan-shaped triple chocolate dessert. Make sure you keep space for the perfectly cooked beef fillet and the grilled octopus on a bed of carrot planks.
The restaurant is also on Silver Dawn, Nova, Muse, Spirit and Moon.
Norwegian Onda Pappardelle from Onda Prima by Scarpetta

The restoration room to engage is my favorite place of restoration on Norwegian Prima. If you want to buy a specialized restaurant, consider my second favorite, Onda de Scarpetta. (It is also available on Norwegian, Spirit and Viva.)
I went to my fairly dull Italian joints. The Pappardelle Bolognese has proven that the Onda by Scarpetta is not part of it.
The deeply rich Bolognese was the perfect embrace of porky, strong and calf for thick folds of pasta. I could feel it on foot – and the table could also next to me, who quickly asked what I had ordered.
If you do not feel pasta, opt for pizzas (like Margherita) or fleshy starts (like the Milanese calf). To reassess your taste buds, start with aperitifs such as yellow -tailed crudo or burrata with prosciutto, arugula and tomatoes.
Make sure to conclude your meal with the upper Italian dessert: Tiramisu.
If the restaurant seems familiar, you may have heard of its sister concept, Scarpetta, which has several locations in the world.
The pasta of New York institution extend up to $ 45 per plate.
The entire dinner in Onda by Scarpetta on Norwegian Prima costs $ 40 per person.
Lobster tempura to Regent Seven Seas Grandeur of the Pacific
Panasian Pacific Rim serves options like Thai vegetarian pad and fried lobster. Brittany Chang / Business Insider
Regent Seven Seas is known for its luxury all -inclusive cruises. The emphasis on “luxury” – its Pacific Rim restaurant serves a mixture of East and Southeast Asia classics with a high -end flair.
For example, chicken and gyoza foie gras, Tom Kha gay with truffles and watermelon salad with Beijing duck.
The Siu Mai has a rear truffle whisper, while the seafood lakssa is a lobster pool party, shrimp, scallops and calmars.
Order the Lobster Tempura or the giant tiger shrimps if you are partial at the crustaceans. For a more humble dish, opt for one side of the nostalgic mie goreng.
The restaurant is available on seven seas grandeur (where I spent three free nights in 2023), Splendor and explore.
Ribme prevails in the main dining room of Royal Caribbean
The staples in the main dining room of Royal Caribbean include the drop coast served with potato puree and vegetables. Brittany Chang / Business Insider
Surprised to see a main dining room on the list? Let me be clear – there is only one reason why I include it: the decline coast.
Free dining rooms are often offered as an alternative in dinner for buffet or specialized restaurants uploaded.
I sailed on three Royal Caribbean ships, which means that I had my right part of MDR meals. Theoretically, it’s nothing special – unless you know what to order.
Depending on the night menu, I suggest transmitting fried chicken and pork rolls. However, I strongly advise (request, even) to order the deliciously tender decrease coast.
I hated most of the first -rate ribs. It is the best I have ever had and the first that I inhaled. I could even venture to say that it turned me into a fan. And for this reason, I will defend its place on this list.
