China’s contemporary AMPEREX (CATL) technology (CATL), the world’s largest producer of electric vehicle batteries, has unveiled an improved battery which, according to him, promises an even longer range than Byd’s cutting -edge technology.
The two technology giants are now boasting of having batteries that can charge electric vehicles in as little as five minutes. But Monday, Catl increased the bet by announcing that its new Shenxing battery has a range of 320 miles, about 70 miles more than the beach indicated by BYD of 250 miles. In comparison, Tesla super-chargers are late by providing 200 miles of 15-minute range.
“Once again, we push the limits of performance beyond the limits,” said Gao Huan, CATL technology director during the company’s technological day in Shanghai.
“Our goal is to make the Catl Shenxing overeating battery the standard for electric vehicles, offering users a more practical and freer travel experience,” he added.
Catl’s innovation was announced just one month after Byd shocked the industry with its own launch of the agenda. The Duel Tech underlines the intense competition which takes place in the Chinese bicycle sector, which feeds incessant innovation at low prices.
Improved shenxing, which has a complete battery capacity of 500 miles, has been launched alongside a new sodium-ion battery, Naxtra, which Catl presented a more affordable and safer alternative to lithium and lead acid batteries.
CATL – which provides a wide range of car brands, including Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen and Ford – was the largest electric battery supplier in the world for the eighth consecutive year in 2024, with a share of 38% of the world market, according to SNE Research, a market research company. Byd followed Catl with a share of 17.2%.
In its deposit for a secondary list provided in Hong Kong, Catl said that at the end of last year, its batteries were used in one in three EVs worldwide, feeding around 17 million vehicles. Having registered in Shenzhen, the Chinese battery giant filed another registration in Hong Kong in February with the aim of developing its global presence.
Gao boasted that the new Shenxing battery would feed more than 67 models of electric vehicles this year, without detailing the models. He said that the battery works in extremely cold weather, offering a load of 80% of 5% in just 15 minutes, even at temperatures as low as 14 degrees (-10 degrees Celsius).
As for the Naxtra battery, thanks to the relative abundance of sodium, it promises lower production costs. The company has also underlined the improved safety and stability of the model, saying that it can operate in extreme weather conditions and is less subject to traditional lithium batteries with explosion and fire risks after collisions.
Gao said Naxtra batteries can deliver a range up to 310 miles on a single load, shorter than Shenxing, and should enter mass production at the end of the year.
The prices imposed by American president Donald Trump on China and cars would have a minimum impact on the battery manufacturer, because his American company represents a small part of his total expeditions, said a CATL representative at China Securities Journal, a Chinese newspaper managed by the state.
The company has developed emergency plans since last year and actively works with customers to negotiate solutions, reportedly told the newspaper to the newspaper.
