As fans evacuated the area, paramedics and stewards went to the fan in question, with TNT Sports reporting that the spectator had suffered cardiac arrest.

After a long period of treatment, the fan was taken out of the stand to the applause of Aston Villa fans around them who appreciated the prompt medical treatment provided.

Due to the medical emergency, the second half of the Villa clash was delayed, with the second half kicking off at 9:10 p.m., ten minutes later than scheduled.

Despite a good start to the match, Ayoub El Kaabi scored twice in 13 minutes to give Olympiacos a 2-0 lead before the half-hour mark.

Villa insisted on playing for the back and came unstuck, suggesting an upset could have been on the cards.

However, Ollie Watkins gave Unai Emery’s side a way back into the game before the break.

Once the delayed second half began, it took just a few minutes for Moussa Diaby to convert from a tight angle at the Holte End to make it 2-2.

But just as Villa’s tail was rising, Olympiacos regained the lead when a Douglas Luiz handball allowed El Kaabi to secure his hat-trick from the penalty spot.

Things then got worse when Santiago Hezze’s long-range shot was deflected by Ezri Konsa to make it 4-2 for the Greeks.

Luiz then had the opportunity to win one back from the penalty spot, but his effort hit the outside of the post, making for a frustrating evening for Villa.
