The Angels announced that the stop stop Zach Neto was restored to the injured list. Neto was reported yesterday should be restored for this weekend. In a corresponding movement, the inner field Nicky Lopez was appointed for assignment.
Lopez, 30, signed with the Halos just before the opening day. He had signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in winter, but had chosen to get out of this pact when he was not going to break the camp with the cubbies.
For the angels, they sought to cover a certain number of injuries in the field. Neto underwent a shoulder operation in November and would miss the first games of the 2025 season. Third goal player Anthony Rendon required from hip surgery in February and will be out of service for a while. To help fill the depth of the inner field, the club brought Lopez, Yoán Moncada,, Tim Anderson,, Kevin Newman And JD Davis. Moncada has also been injured and is currently on the IL because of a thumb spraining.
Despite all the injuries, Lopez really received no playing time. He has six plaques appearances in five games, reaching the base in any of them. Anderson had resumed the position of stopping stop. He did not hit much but his gloves have received decent notes in his small work sample. With the return of Neto, he will be downgraded into a bench role anyway. Luis Rengifo hold third Kyren Paris has a break, taking over from the second basic position while reaching .326 / .426 / .717.
Lopez already seemed a little superfluous on the list, Neto’s return tightening him even more. Angels will now technically be technically a week of DFA Limbo time to understand the next step, but Lopez has enough service time to reject an outright assignment, so he seems to be a free agent within a week.
Generally speaking, he was a player in the lower field of the glove and light in his career. It has a shot line of .247 / .311 / .313 in 2,352 appearances in large league plates, this line translating by a 73 WRC +. The criticisms of his extinguished at the COURT stop are mixed because he has -11 of the defensive tracks saved, but 33 out-out above the average. He also has a lot of experience in other positions in the field with good grades there, and a brief work on the left field also.
