Washington – The American postal service is looking for an increase in rates this summer which includes hiking at the cost of a first class stamp from 73 cents to 78 cents.
The request was filed on Wednesday at the Postal Regulatory Commission, which properly owes the proposal. If it is approved, the increase of 5 cents for an “forever” stamp and similar increases for postcards, meters measured and international mail would take effect on July 13.
The postal service supports, as it did last year when it promulgated a similar increase, which it is necessary to achieve financial stability.
Former American post master, Louis Dejoy, previously warned postal customers to get used to the increases in “uncomfortable” rate while postal service seeks to become self -sufficient. He said price increases were late after “at least 10 years of a defective pricing model”.
Dejoy resigned in March after almost five years in the post, leaving President Donald Trump and the Elon Musk Government Ministry of efficiency had launched the idea of privatizing the mail service.
Deputy Post Office Doug Tulino assumed the role of general post office until the postal services committee appoints a permanent replacement of Dejoy.
Trump said he was planning to put USPS under the control of the trade department in order to stop losses in the agency of $ 78 billion a year, which sometimes had trouble balanced books with the decline of first -class mail.
