San Antonio (AP) – The Star of Country Music Johnny Rodriguez, a popular American singer Mexican better known for her successes in the 1970s such as “I cannot get her out of my mind”, “Ridin ‘My Thumb to Mexico” and “This is the way Love Goes”, died. He was 73 years old.
Rodriguez died on Friday in San Antonio health complications, according to his daughter, Aubry Rodriguez. She also shared a declaration on social networks saying that he had gone peacefully and was surrounded by family.
“Papa was not only a legendary musician whose artistic talent touched millions around the world, but also a husband, a father, an uncle and a deeply loved brother whose warmth, humor and compassion shaped the lives of all those who knew him,” she wrote.
Rodriguez was named the most promising male singer of the 1972 music academy, and his beginnings, “presentation by Johnny Rodriguez”, was nominated for the album of the year in 1973. More than a dozen of his albums and singles landed in the Top 10.
Rodriguez later said that his career had suffered after starting to consume drugs and alcohol excessively.
Rodriguez was born in Sabinal, Texas, a small town about 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of San Antonio and around 90 miles (145 kilometers) east of the American-Mexican border.
A Jury from Texas acquitted Rodriguez from murder in 1999, about a year after entering his mother’s house in sabinal and once shot an acquaintance who, according to him, was a burglar. Israel Borrego, 26, died one day after being shot.
Rodriguez continued to play concerts in southern Texas, and he was inducted into Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
