The US military announced on Thursday that it had withdrawn the commander from his Pituffik base in Greenland, adding that he would not tolerate any action that went against President Trump’s agenda.
The decision to withdraw Colonel Susannah Meyers was announced in a statement by American spatial force published on social networks by Sean Parnell, the Pentagon-chief spokesperson.
Although the declaration has not cited a specific reason for its withdrawal, Mr. Parnell said that “actions aimed at undermining the chain of command or overthrowing the agenda of President Trump will not be tolerated”.
Mr. Parnell’s position contained a link to an article in Military.com, an independent press organization, which said that Colonel Meyers had sent an e-mail to the basic staff distancing from the visit of Vice-President JD Vance on March 28.
Mr. Vance visited the base as part of Mr. Trump’s thrust to take over Greenland, an island that is a semi-self-like in Denmark, for reasons of national security.
“Commanders should join the highest standards of conduct, in particular with regard to non -partisan respect in the exercise of their functions,” the Space Force said in the press release.
Mr. Vance criticized Denmark during his remarks to Pituffik staff, accusing the country of not spending enough to ensure the security of the region. “This is not how you speak to your relatives allies,” replied Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
On March 31, Colonel Meyers sent an email to Pituffik staff saying that the concerns of the Trump administration as expressed by Mr. Vance did not reflect the opinions of the base management, according to extracts published by Military.com.
The website said the spatial force confirmed that Colonel Meyers’ message was authentic. The Defense Ministry and the Space Force did not respond to requests for comments made hours of work outside.
In addition to American military staff, civil entrepreneurs from Greenland, Denmark and Canada live and also work at Pituffik (Bee-Doo-Feek).
Colonel Meyers became the commander of the 821st Space Base Group, who manages Pituffik, last July.
