Le Pen and his co-accusation were accused of illegally siphon the European Parliament to pay for party employees who rarely (or never) treated in Brussels or Strasbourg. The court estimated that the accused had diverted more than 4 million euros, including € 474,000 of which Le Pen was personally responsible as a deputy for deputy.
“In general, our European capitals observations indicate that they are absolutely not opposed to the outward journey beyond the limits of democracy during the political process,” spoke Peskov.
Le Pen has links with Russia through a controlled banking loan, which the national rally withdrew in 2014 and announced that it had reimbursed in 2023. The spectrum of the loan was hung on the party for years, the Pen being forced to refute the accusations that it was close to Moscow.
The French court also inflicted a fine of € 100,000 and sentenced it to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, in the EU funds. The judges did not rule that these sanctions should take immediate effect, so that they can be delayed by a possible call.
In Hungary, Italy and the Netherlands, some of the most eminent right wings in Europe have reacted to the decision with anger.
“I’m a navy!” said Orbán, whose Fidesz party is with the Pen National Rally in the Patriots group at the European Parliament in Brussels, after being convicted but before the final verdict.
