A federal judge said that it issued a preliminary injunction which would allow Harvard to continue to register international students – interrupting, at least for the moment, the efforts of the Trump administration to ban practice.
Lawyers from Harvard and the Trump administration were in Boston’s attempt on Thursday for the administration’s attempt to revoke the school’s ability to enroll students and academics to international visas.
This decision comes after the same judge, Allison D. Burroughs, granted a temporary ban order last Friday.
“For me, this represents a kind of temporary relief,” said Ella Ricketts, first -year international student at Harvard. She should start an internship soon and feared that without a block, she could not do it. She says she hesitates to mark it as a victory. “Obviously, I remain optimistic and full of hope, but it is not a step in a much more important process.”
Harvard has Nearly 7,000 international studentswhich represents more than a quarter of the student body. More than 1.1 million international students Registered in American colleges and universities of the 2023-24 school year. They are not eligible for federal financial assistance, and therefore for many colleges represent a crucial financial rescue buoy.
