The actor and actor Paul Rodriguez was arrested after the police found drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop Friday evening in Burbank.
Burbank police sgt. Stephen Turner said that Rodriguez, 70, was a passenger in a vehicle that was arrested for “code violations” around 7:30 pm in the district of Victory Boulevard and rue Lamer.
“During the investigation, drugs were located,” Turner said in a statement.
Rodriguez was reserved for Burbank prison for possession of drugs and released with a quote to appear in court next month, said Turner.
Rodriguez tells a different version of the story.
He told TMZ that he was sleeping in the passenger’s seat when a “Caucasian” officer during a “power trip” slapped him to wake him up. Rodriguez said to the exit that drugs belonged to the vehicle driver.
Bobby Samini, his lawyer, called the accusations against Rodriguez False, and said his arrest and his treatment by police were a “violation of his civil rights”.
“He completely cooperated with the police at any time,” said Samini in a statement. “The police said that the driver of the vehicle was in possession of a controlled substance. Mr. Rodriguez had no substance controlled in his possession, nor under the influence of a controlled substance.”
Rodriguez, the son of a migrant agricultural worker, was born in Mexico before moving to East Los Angeles in his youth. His stand-up career began in comedy clubs in the late 1970s.
Rodriguez’s work includes writing and theater in dozens of films, including its own stand-up comedy specials. He also hosted television programs on Indivision and MTV. He is known for his roles in films such as “Blood Blood Blood”, “Rat Race”, “The World’s Fast the most fast Indian” and “Tortilla Soup”.
