The actor Dave Chappelle will receive the price of President NAACP in Pasadena – Orange County Register

The actor Dave Chappelle will be honored by the Prix of President NAACP at the 56th NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena this month, the organizers announced today.

The president’s prize honors individuals for a special realization and a distinguished public service. The former recipients include Usher, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, Rihanna, LeBron James, Spike Lee and Lauryn Hill.

“The president’s prize honors an unshakable dedication to the community, and throughout his distinguished career, Dave Chappelle has always been recognized as a powerful voice of social conscience,” said the president and chief executive , Derrick Johnson, in a press release. “Thanks to its unique ability to transform complex political problems into stimulating humor, Dave has solidified its place as one of the most impactful voices of our time.”

Chappelle, 51, is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American humor. His work has earned him more than 30 nominations and awards in television and film for projects that include his revolutionary comedy television series “Chappelle’s Show”, several comedy specials and several guest appearances on “Saturday Night Live”.

Chappelle received five Emmy Awards, including three for her specials from Comedy Netflix “Sticks & Stones” (2020) and “Equanimity & The Bird Revelation” (2018), and two for welcoming “Saturday Night Live” (2017 and 2021) . He won six Grammy Awards for the best comedy album, more recently winning in 2025 with “The Dreamer”.

However, the actor also aroused controversy for his frequent jokes on the Transgender community, especially in his Netflix specials in 2021 “The Closer” and “The Dreamer”.

The NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast on February 22 of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Bet and CBS. This year, the broadcast will also highlight efforts to support the communities of Altadena, Pacific Palisades and Pasadena affected by recent forest fires, the organizers said.
