The actions of the supplier of French satellites Eutelsat have tripled in the last two days in the midst of the concerns that Ukraine’s access to Starlink could be threatened.
Eutelsat’s shares on the Paris Stock Exchange jumped 68% on Monday before jumping an additional 123% the next morning to $ 4.77. Prices extended to $ 3.79 at the closing of the market on Tuesday.
The jump comes as the United States has suspended help from Ukraine on Monday, which sparked fears of disruption to capacity such as advanced American aerial defenses and Internet access on the battlefield.
Starlink, owned by Elon Musk, SpaceX, was a vital internet supplier for Ukraine soldiers, and the loss of his services would be a blow for communications and kyiv drone operations.
This is the key for Eutelsat, which merged with a competitor of Starlink based in the United Kingdom, Oneweb, in 2023.
The satellite company has become in the foreground while European leaders say that they strengthen defense expenses while increasing the possibility that they can seek to fill the gaps in Ukrainian Internet access.
As the share price increased, a company spokesman told Reuters that he was talking to the European Union of the way she could contribute to Ukrainian Internet access.
The company also told Financial Times that it had equipment ready to be “deployed quickly in Ukraine to link the most critical missions and infrastructure”.
Despite the jump this week, Eutestat’s actions are still well below its past summits. His stock has reached about $ 33 in mid-2015 and has continued to decline in the last decade.
Eutelsat did not respond to a request for comments sent outside the regular opening hours by Business Insider.
However, it is not clear if access to Starlink from Ukraine is in danger.
Musk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, denied a Reuters report from the end of February who said that US officials discussed the kyiv Starlink Cup if he rejected a mineral agreement with Washington.
And while the United States pays in part for the Subscription of Starlink from Ukraine, European countries also finance many terminals. Poland, which pays about half of the Ukraine starlink terminals, said it would continue to finance them.
Thanks to OneWeb, Eutelsat also already provides satellite services to the governments and institutions of Ukraine, but he only has a tenth of Starlink’s satellites. Its constellation has less than 700 satellites, while Starlink during more than 7,000.
The European company operates 35 Geo satellites, which orbit 21,000 miles above the earth, and around 630 satellites in low orbit, which orbit around 750 miles above the earth.
On Sunday, the spokesman for the European Commission, Thomas Régnier, told journalists that regional leaders planned to give Ukrainian access to Govsatcom as an alternative.
The system is a shared network of satellites already belonging to European Member States.
The Boost of Eutelsat’s momentary actions also occurs while European defense manufacturing actions have increased due to the recent pressure on American relations with its traditional and Ukraine allies.
Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, announced on Tuesday that European leaders would push to allocate 800 billion euros, or about 840 billion dollars, to their defense expenses collectively.
