“The Acolyte” Introduces an All-New Lightsaber Model

There are only a few days left before the premiere of “Star Wars: The Sidekick” on the Disney+ service and details of something kept under wraps have emerged.

Creator Leslye Headland has revealed that a brand new lightsaber model has been created for the upcoming show, not to be confused with the light whip already seen in the promotional trailer.

Speaking to Rotten Tomatoes, she said that when she initially presented the proposal for the new lightsaber to the props department, they told her it wouldn’t work. She persisted and eventually the new lightsaber was made.

It’s unclear if this is the same pre-existing “shoto blade” that will be used by Dafne Keen’s young Padawan Jecki Lon. Keen tells Empire that the custom-made shorter blade was made for her because her 5’2 height meant a regular saber made her feel like she was “skiing.”

The series takes place during the High Republic, decades before the Skywalker Saga, as the Jedi investigate mysterious murders and the emergence of the Sith from the shadows.

Amandla Stenberg, Carrie-Anne Moss and Lee Jung-jae star in the series which will be released in two episodes on June 4.
