The days of play are over for one of the best NFL level receivers in the last decade.
Julio Jones, 36, officially retired from the NFL, he announced Friday on social networks.
“I am making this announcement today because of the city of Atlanta,” said Jones in a video. “Thank you, guy. I appreciate you all. It is nothing other than love. I do this on the 404 days. “
Jones played for four different teams during his 13 -year career, but he is undoubtedly a legend of the Falcons of Atlanta.
Initially drafted from Alabama to No. 6 in the general classification in 2011, he made 7 pro Bowls and captured 848 assists for 12,896 yards and 60 affected during his 10 years in Atlanta.
Jones totaled more reception yards, yards after capture and the first to lower a reception than any other player in the league during his stay with the Falcons and he went beyond Jerry Rice as the fastest player in the NFL history to reach 12,000 reception yards during the 2019 season. He holds many Falcons files.
“I also want to thank my teammates in the league,” said Jones in the video. “Matt Ryan, thank you. It was a lockout in 2011. You went so far as to take me to your home, showing me the game book, going to Fields, passing by games. THANKS. I appreciate it, guy. Roddy (White). Harry (Douglas). Thank you.
“Again, Roddy, Harry, teach me the plan for a receiver, being a pro. Again, thank you all. You all my brothers forever. THANKS. I appreciate you.
After leaving Atlanta, Jones spent a single seasons with the Titans of Tennessee, the Buccaneers of Tampa Bay and the Eagles of Philadelphia, but he was not the same explosive weapon that he was during his time with the Falcons. Jones has not been active for a game since 2023.
Its 13,703 career reception yards ranked 16th in the history of the NFL.
“I started when I was 8 years old, just a Foley, Alabama child,” said Jones in the video. “It was an incredible walk.”
