“The video is wild because unless you know someone was hurt in the video you would never expect it. Like it’s just an average step dive. The video I saw on Facebook and then from another angle surfaced on a Reddit thread, both seem harmless enough,” family friend Wolter Tejera told WGRZ.

But the dive was devastating and Piché suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury and required major surgery.

“She has a long recovery ahead of her and will need all the help she can get. It is still too early to know her prognosis, but after leaving the hospital, she will have to go to a rehabilitation center. She obviously won’t be able to work during this time,” says a GoFundMe page, which has so far raised $53,000.

The fundraiser organizer, a close family friend, said the woman had already undergone “extensive surgery.”

Her friend Tejera is still trying to understand why Piché was so seriously injured.

“He dove into the crowd, and there just couldn’t have been enough people to catch him, otherwise they didn’t know he was going to jump.” And that was kind of it from then on,” Tejera said.

A commenter who claimed to be standing behind Piché as Floreani dove from the stage said the singer was “clearly devastated” after realizing he had hurt her.

“My partner and I were right next to her. As soon as we heard her say she was scared and couldn’t move, we knew it wasn’t good. John was clearly devastated,” they wrote.
