A young beauty influencer and lifestyle was shot on Tuesday evening when he was live with his disciples on Tiktok.
Valeria Márquez, 23, was killed by an intruding male in the living room, where she worked in the city of Zapopan, Mexico, the office of the state prosecutor of Jalisco confirmed in a press release.
She was then declared dead at the show, said the prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutors investigate the murder as an alleged case of femicide – the murder of a woman or a girl for sexospecific reasons.
The identity of the suspect has not been released.
The Guardian reported that Márquez, who had more than 200,000 subscribers on Instagram and Tiktok, was known for his beauty and make -up videos.
Earlier during Livestream, Márquez said that someone came to the show when she was not there to offer her an “expensive gift”. Márquez, who seemed worried, said that she was not planning to wait until the person came back, the Guardian reported.
When he was sitting at a table holding an animal toy in a plush, Márquez was heard: “They arrive”, before a voice in the background asks: “Hey, Vale?”
“Yes,” she replied, before diverting the sound on the live flow. A few seconds later, Márquez was shot dead. Then an unidentified person, whose face was briefly seen on the live flow, won his phone before the end of the video, the Guardian reported.
The prosecutor’s office did not publish details on the circumstances that led to the murder of Márquez.
But Mexico has one of the highest femicide rates in Latin America and in the world, despite laws and campaigns to remedy it, according to the National Library of Medicine.
Over the past decade, registered femicide cases have increased considerably, which continues to be a major problem in Mexico. Femicids represented 19.8% of female homicides in 2015, but the percentage increased to 24.2% in 2024, according to a vision of Humanity.
Jalisco, the Mexican state where the murder of Márquez has occurred, is classified sixth in the 32 states of Mexico for homicides, with 906 there since the start of President Claudia Sheinbaum in October 2024, according to Tresearch data.
