Cleveland (AP) – The wishes of most players end up being withdrawals.
For Shohei Ohtani, they can cause circuits.
The Japanese star became the third player in the history of the Dodgers to reach 20 circuits in the first 55 games of the team with an imposing journey of two points in the fourth round Tuesday evening against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Japanese star joined Gil Hodges (21 in 1951) and Cody Bellinger (20 in 2019) as Dodgers with at least 20 circuits in the first 55 games. This is the 64th time that a major player has done it in the same period, the first since Pete Alonso from New York put in 2023.
“It’s really cool. A bit of jealousy probably. You know, it has essentially mistreated a fly ball today and it comes out,” said Max Muncy, who added a three -point circuit in the 9-5 Dodgers victory. “It is only one of those things where he does that kind of thing that no normal human being can do. It’s really fun to watch it and see it. ”
Ohtani – A three -time MVP which leads the major leagues of the circuits – led a Tanner Bibee cutter in the left plot represents an advance of 4-0. It was the fourth time this season, that Ohtani went deeply on the opposite side.
“It was not rinsed, but it was turned in the right direction. It was only one of these bullets when he struck it, it continued to do like a helium ball,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “It is true that he has much more margin of error than everyone on the planet. Perhaps he and the judge (New York Yankees Slugger Aaron).”
Bibee removed Ohtani during the first round and published an intentional walk in the second. The right -handed believed that he came out of the fourth round when he saw Ohtani hitting, only to see him continue to wear.
“I think a lot of people thought it was a popup. I mean, I did it too. It was really crazy to increase it,” said Bibee.
It was the second time this season and the 10th since Ohtani has come to the Majors of Japan for the 2018 season that he won in three consecutive games. This also includes a stretch of eight in the last 13 games.
Before Tuesday evening, the fastest Ohtani had gone deeply 20 times in a season was 70 games in the angels season in 2021.
This is the third time that the Quadruple All-Star has had at least 12 circuits in a month since he joined the Dodgers. He did it in June and August last season.
The most Homers Ohtani reached a month was 15 with the Los Angeles Angels in June 2023.
Of the 245 Ohtani circuits, 37, 37 went to the left ground.
“It was much more disciplined in the striking area,” said Roberts. “He swings his strikes and he takes bullets that are not in the striking area. And I think that if you look at this section, he works much more. When he is ready to walk and be ready to hit the balls in his typing area, that’s where you see the kind of slug and when he makes a tear.”
