When I consider a new piercing, I like to think of my ear as a virgin canvas that awaits to be transformed into a masterpiece. Over the years, ear drilling has become a clean art form. The propeller is the official term for the classic cartilage placement. This reference option has been redesigned over the years, with several piercings placed together (known as double or triple propeller) or placed slightly lower on cartilage (an average propeller). Although this placement is quite accessible, it is always a cartilage piercing, so plan a certain pressure during execution and a good amount of recovery time. “Healing may seem rapid, but being the cartilage, it will always take more than 6 months to heal completely,” explains Ellis.

This is where we start to enter the folds. Daith is a piercing through the most interior cartilage of the ear, also called “crux” of the propeller. “Daith” is derived from the Hebrew word for knowledge, and piercing facilitates headaches and chronic migraines (although more evidence is necessary to support this assertion). Due to its placement, the Daith is among the only piercings that can request a ring from the start. It is also one of the most uncomfortable pierce points, and (like all cartilage piercings), it is subject to infection, so be sure to clean well!

Just above the Daith, you will find the tower. “This is a cartilage piercing located in the highest crest of your inner ear,” explains Isaacs. The tower is a less popular touch than the daith or the tragus, but adds a similar quantity of visual interest to your ornate ear. Pain thresholds and healing time
As the drilling act amounts to stinging a hole in your ear, pain followed by a period of healing is to be expected. After the selection and configuration of the placement, the actual drilling part is quite fast – as in a few seconds. Although momentary discomfort can be accompanied by areas that are difficult to access, pain can be described as a pinch or a little pressure. In the end, pain tolerance is just as personal as your assembly of earrings. “Some people just have it and others,” says Castillo. “I saw lobes feel like killing someone and I saw the cartilage being the easiest thing.” New York’s drilling Roze Rahim drilling artist from New York, piercing, suggests resuming and leaving deeply when your piercer recommends. “It really helps to reduce the feeling of drilling,” she says.
Healing times are slightly more uniform, but can change depending on your lifestyle and your commitment to take care. “Healing times vary and depend on factors such as your overall health, the amount of sleep you get, stress levels and your follow -up regime,” explains Isaacs. “As a rule, ear lobes piercings take around 4 to 6 months, while the upper or interior ear piercings put between 6 and 12 months + to heal completely.” Appropriate cleaning (twice a day with lukewarm water and antibacterial soap) and not sleeping on your new drilling will help minimize irritation and infection potential, getting closer to comfort without swelling – and your aesthetic lenses. “Patience is essential during the healing process! Changing the piercing jewelry too early can disrupt the healing process and make you go back,” said Hurt. “It’s a good idea to follow with a pierceur when you want to change the room with which you have been pierced.” And as each placement is unique, be sure to follow all the monitoring instructions provided by your piercing artist.
