The answer, in many cases, is that there is no evidence.
Many of these stories have relatively minor consequences — an apparent effort by the president to make a connection or show that he is more than just a politician. But throughout his career — notably during his first presidential campaign, in the 1988 election cycle — Biden’s propensity to exaggerate or embellish stories about his life has led to doubts about its veracity. Judging by our mailbag, these stories irritate some people.
