Oklahoma City – Kayden Henry and Joley Mitchell hit solo circuits to help Texas defeat the quadruple defending national champion Oklahoma 4-2 in the Women’s College World Series on Saturday.
Texas (53-11) qualified in the semi-finals on Monday and only needs one victory to reach the championship series for the third time in four years.
Oklahoma (51-8) remains alive in the double elimination format. The Sooners will play Oregon in an elimination match on Sunday.
Oklahoma had beaten Texas in the two -year championship series in the past three years and had won six consecutive games against the Longhorns in the general classification.
Two of the five defeats of the Texas Teagan Kavan launcher this season were against the Sooners. On Saturday, she granted only one deserved point, dispersed seven strokes and withdrew eight in seven heats to win the victory.
The Oklahoma launcher, Sam Landry, suffered the loss. She abandoned three deserved points and eight sure in six rounds. Ella Parker and Gabby Garcia each had two sure for the Sooners.
Henry’s solo killed the line of the right field gave Texas an advance of 3-2 to the fifth.
Oklahoma obtained a third -party runner with two withdrawals in the sixth but did not score. Mitchell’s solo test in the left center put the longhorns 4-2 at the bottom of the English Channel.
Oklahoma tried to extend the match and had runners the first and second with a withdrawal, but Kavan withdrew Garcia and Hannah Coor swinging to finish the match.
