Texas A&M baseball commit Matt Bergevin talks Jim Schlossnagle, his upcoming visit to Texas and more

The Friday before Texas A&M played in the College World Series finale, Matt Bergevin heard an apparent rumor from his private hitting coach.

Jim Schlossnagle is heading to Texas.

Bergevin, the Fairfield The transfer first baseman, who verbally committed to A&M earlier this month, quickly shot down the idea. And even as speculation continued to surface throughout the weekend, he remained optimistic. Especially after Nolan Cain — the former Aggies associate head coach who followed Schlossnagle to the Longhorns — called Bergevin after their final game of the season Monday.

During that conversation, Cain asked Bergevin to schedule a recruiting visit to A&M for that weekend. That trip has since been canceled, as on Tuesday the apparent rumor about Schlossnagle turned out to be true. Bergevin said he learned the news from his coach while he was doing Bulgarian splits.

“I was like, ‘GD, my hitting coach was right,’” Bergevin told GigEm247. “I just dropped my weights and was like, ‘Damn.’ I wore an A&M shirt. I walked around the gym for 10 minutes…

“I will remember this for the rest of my life.”
