Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was “minorly” injured in a Saturday night shooting that left 10 people injured at a Florida nightclub.

The Texans announced Dell’s injury in a statement Sunday. He was released from the hospital and “in good spirits,” according to the release.

“We have been informed that Tank Dell was the victim of a shooting in Sanford, Florida last night,” » declared the Texans via their X account. “He suffered a minor injury but has been released from hospital and is in good spirits. We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates as appropriate, but we ask that you respect his privacy Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this incident.”

Aaron Wilson of news channel KPRC 2 in Houston reported that Dell was “a victim and an innocent bystander in a mass shooting at a nightclub”, who was “caught in the crossfire”. He was not involved in the altercation, according to the report.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office told local media that Christopher Bouie Jr., 16, was arrested as the suspected shooter. He was being held in a juvenile detention center. He faces charges of attempted homicide, discharging a firearm on public property, exhibition and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of firearm by a minor.

According to local reports, deputies responded after hearing gunshots coming from behind the Cabana Live nightclub in Sanford, Florida, about 25 miles northeast of Orlando. Detectives told reporters Sunday that 10 people were recovering from injuries suffered in the shooting that occurred just after midnight. The victims’ injuries mainly concern the lower limbs and are not life-threatening, investigators said.

Witness Neisha Foster described the scene of the shooting at WESH in Orlando.

“I heard pow pow pow. I was so scared I started looking around, everyone was scattering,” Foster said. “I was terrified. I was crawling on the floor screaming for my sister. Everyone is trying to ask me what’s going on. Everyone has no idea.”

“I saw quite a few people injured. A few were shot in the leg and arm.”

A Seminole County Sheriff’s Office arrest report obtained by WESH indicates a fight broke out before the shooting. The shooter who was not involved in the fight then pulled out a gun and began shooting into a crowd of people, according to the report.

According to Bouie’s arrest report obtained by ClickOrlando.com, a security guard tackled the suspected shooter and disarmed him “almost immediately” after the shooting began.

Cabana Live acknowledged the incident that occurred “outside of our establishment last night” in a social media post on Sunday and said it was cooperating with the investigation.

Dell, 24, was having a stellar rookie season with the Texans in 2023 before fracturing his fibula, ending his season. In 11 games (eight starts), Dell had 41 catches for 709 yards with seven touchdowns. No information has been released on the nature of Dell’s injury or its impact on his recovery from his fractured fibula.
