The Houston Texans got off to a rocky start in their divisional game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s hard to have a complete breakdown on a play, a stupid penalty, and a player pushing toward the coach in the first 13 seconds of the game.
The Chiefs got off to a good start Saturday with a nice 63-yard kickoff return from Nikko Remigio. Texans cornerback Kris Boyd eventually tackled him, forcing a fumble that the Chiefs recovered. Then Boyd lost his mind.
Boyd threw his helmet as he left the field, resulting in a 15-yard penalty for Houston. Then he gave Texans special teams coordinator Frank Ross a big thumbs up as he came to the sideline.
This all looks bad for Boyd. Not a tiny push as he tried to bench Ross.
The Texans’ defense helped make the situation worse. They held the Chiefs to a field goal after the kickoff return and penalty. This allowed the opening sequence to be a complete disaster.
But it certainly wasn’t the first 13 seconds the Texans were hoping for in their quest to upset the back-to-back champions.
