Tesla Layoffs Continue As Recruiters Get Cut

Three former Tesla employees confirmed to Business Insider that they were informed of the layoffs via a call Friday morning. They requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on behalf of Tesla. Other former Tesla recruiters posted on LinkedIn saying they were informed their jobs were affected Friday.

It is not clear how many employees were affected by this series of layoff notices.

The latest layoff notices come after Tesla announced Sunday evening that it was laying off more than 10% of its workforce and notified its first round of affected U.S. employees that same evening, according to the two separate emails seen by Business Insider .

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a company-wide email on Sunday that there has been a “duplication of roles and functions in some areas” due to the rapid growth of the company, according to a note seen by Business Insider. The billionaire is known for his cost-cutting habits, including cutting X’s workforce in half shortly after buying the social media company.

The same day, Tesla announced at least its first round of reductions two managers resigned of the society. Senior Vice President of Powertrain and Electrical Engineering Drew Baglino and Vice President of Public Policy and Business Development Rohan Patel said on X that they left Tesla on Sunday.

Job cuts come as Tesla faces slower request for its electric cars. The company’s shares are down about 35% year to date. Tesla will release its next earnings report on April 23.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the layoffs.
