Tesla Cybertruck is in crisis. The automaker is still seated on a ton of old inventories, which is now greatly reduced, and it erases production to try to avoid strengthening the inventory.
When launching the Cybertruck production version at the end of 2023, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, said that the vehicle program would reach 250,000 units per year in 2025:
“I think we will end with approximately a quarter of a million cybertrucks per year, but I don’t think we are going to reach this production rate next year. I think we are likely to reach it in 2025.”
We are now in 2025 and Tesla should currently sell cybertruck at a rate of around 25,000 units per year – one tenth of what Musk predicted.
Earlier this month, we pointed out that Tesla had started the second quarter with 2,400 cybertrucks in inventory, valued at more than $ 200 million.
This is a real problem for Tesla, because many of these cybertrucks are units of the older model, older 2024 models not eligible for federal tax credit, and even a “series of foundations ”, which Tesla ceased to build in October 2024 – which means that Tesla is sitting on trucks of 6 months in some cases.
Tesla now offers deeper discounts on the new inventory of cybertrucks. The discounts can go up to $ 10,000, but the average is closer to $ 8,000, which is more than the tax credit:

Despite Tesla’s efforts, the automaker has only reduced its Cybertruck inventory by approximately 100 units since the beginning of the month.
According to a new Business Insider report.
According to two Tesla workers speaking with BI, the automaker has reduced its Cybertruck production teams and is now making a fraction of its original capacity. He also moved certain workers in cybertruck production towards the production of factory modeling.
One of the workers said:
“It seems to have filtered people a lot. The parking lot continues to become more empty. ”
As we mentioned previously, Tesla has exploited all its factories at around 60% capacity to avoid strengthening excessive stocks in the middle of a lower request.
Regarding the Cybertruck program, it seems that Tesla still reduces production.
Last week, Tesla launched a new version of the Cybertruck to try to stimulate demand, but it was badly received due to the deletion by the car manufacturer of many essential features.

There are many other car manufacturers who have already abandoned the cybertruck from these results, but not Tesla. Musk is not one to admit defeat easily.
However, Tesla lacks options.
The new RWD Cybertruck was a desperate attempt, and I doubt it will work. Now it seems that Tesla strangles production – practically confirming that the new garnish has not helped.
The next step would be a complete production break.
Again, I don’t think Musk wants to admit defeat, but at some point, it’s inevitable.
