Tesla Cybertruck Beats U.S. EV Downturn with Average Sales of 31 Units Per Day

Tesla’s Cybertruck, an electric vehicle, has been making waves in the electric vehicle industry. In the United States, its sales have increased steadily since the start of the year. According to Finbold data, Tesla sold 2,803 Cybertrucks in the first quarter of 2024.

Sales started at 869 units in January, increased to 925 in February and crossed the 1,000 mark in March, with 1,009 units sold. This means that on average, Tesla sold 31 Cybertrucks per day in the first quarter of 2024.

However, sales of Tesla’s Cybertruck still lag behind the electric pickup category in the United States. Ford leads with 7,335 units sold in the first quarter, followed by Tesla’s Cybertruck with 2,803. Rivian’s R1T is third with 2,737 units, General Motors’ Chevrolet Silverado EV sold 1,061 and the GMC Hummer EV came fifth with 272 units.

The increase in Cybertruck sales is a positive sign for Tesla, especially as the general electric vehicle market is slowing and other Tesla sales are declining. Sustained sales of the Cybertruck reflect the enthusiasm generated by the model since its announcement.

The Cybertruck, with its unique design, falls into the luxury category of full-size pickup trucks. Tesla announced in its earnings report that it produced more than 1,000 Cybertrucks in a single week in April, indicating that sales are expected to increase.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the Cybertruck is likely to become a key part of the company’s vision and aims to sell a quarter of a million units a year. A previous Finbold report revealed that Tesla received an average of around 1,102 Cybertruck reservations per day over the previous two years, through August 2023.

However, the Cybertruck faced some challenges. Nearly 4,000 units have been recalled due to a defect in the accelerator that could cause them to jam when pressed, increasing the risk of an accident.
