Terence Stamp, the best known English actor for playing a Kryptonian supervillain in “Superman” and “Superman II”, died at the age of 87, according to his family.
Stamp died on Sunday morning, his family said in a statement to the Reuters news agency, but they did not specify how.
Stamp played in front of Christopher Reeve in the 1978 film and his 1980 sequel, taking the emblematic character of General Zod. The role occurred more than a decade after the stamp was nominated for an Oscar for his role of support in the film “Billy Budd”.
Although he did not win any price, the “Superman” franchise was a decisive brand in the career as a Stamp actress. Stamp played Zod, the Kryptonian military leader who escaped the ghost area, in the two films like a Reeve Superman sheet.
Years later, Stamp would play another Kryptonian in the show “Smallville”. He expressed the hero’s father, Jor-El, in the series, who told the life of a young Clark Kent before choosing to set Cap Crimson in Metropolis.
Stamp, the first of the five children born from a tug stoker, grew up in London while the bombs fell during the Second World War. He then worked in city advertising agencies before winning a scholarship to attend a dramatic school.
He launched his acting career with an Oscar appointment for his first film “Billy Budd” (1962) before receiving the Golden Globe for the new star of the year in 1963.
Stamp’s career had somewhat slowed down when he won his role in the “Superman” franchise. Later, he continued to play a transgender woman in “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” (1994) and continued to play a role in a variety of genres, including thrillers, comedy and fantastic.
His latest role was in the horror thriller of 2021 “last night in Soho”.
Stamp published a series of memories from 1987 to 2017, including its “rare stamps” of 2011, which detailed the most pivotal moments in his life. He described the book on his website as a look at the “Polish of the tent that allowed me to keep a roof over my head for 50 years while I encouraged the artist inside to show his face.”
