Tens of thousands of Palestinians fled oriental parts of the city of Gaza in the north of the territory on Sunday after Israel Warned of a major offensive.
THE messages On the social networks of the Israeli Defense Forces, warned against “military operations (which) degenerate, intensify and extend to the west to the city center to destroy the capacities of terrorist organizations” and have led those who live in several crowded districts to Al-Mawasi, a coastal area much further south which is already too limited and has very limited installations.
Witnesses have described chaos scenes while whole families were trying to pack their personal effects, tents and meager food stocks on donkey carts, bikes, improvised vans and cars.
A large number of Palestinians displaced by houses or camps in the north of the city of Gaza moved there after the renewed Israeli operations and the clashes with Hamas Since a fragile cease-fire collapsed in March.
The warnings of Israel came after days of Israeli air strikes and to cross Gaza who killed hundreds.
The Gaza Civil Defense Agency said 23 Palestinians had been killed on Sunday by Israeli strikes, including at least three children.
Mahmoud Bassal, agency spokesperson, said two children had been killed during a strike on their house in Zaytun, just east of Gaza City early in the morning.
A resident of Jabaliya, Ahmed Arar, 60, said that his family’s house had been destroyed after receiving a warning that he would be bombed from a person identifying himself as an Israeli army officer.
The Israeli army said it was unable to comment on the reported incidents, but said it was fighting “to dismantle the military capabilities of Hamas”.
THE 20 month war in Gaza was launched by the attack on October 7, 2023 of Hamas, during which activists killed 1,200 people, mainly civilians and removed 250.
Israel’s reprisal offensive killed at least 56,500 people in Gaza, again mainly civilians.
There have also been concerns about how Food is distributed in Gaza. Donald Trump used social media on Sunday to call for a quick end to war in Gaza. “Agree in Gaza, recover the hostages,” published the American president on his social platform Truth.
The indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, negotiated by Qatar and Egypt, continue but without an obvious sign of breakthrough. Many analysts say that only direct pressure from Trump or Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, will lead to a new ceasefire because neither Israel nor Hamas currently seem likely to make the necessary concessions.
