Teen arrested after deadly attack on family in Fresno County, deputies say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of homicide following the death of his parents Wednesday, in what the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office initially described as a “violent incident”.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the 14-year-old boy was responsible for the deaths of his mother, Se Vang, and father, Lue Yang, both 37 years old. Deputies say the 14-year-old is also responsible for his 11-year-old sister’s injuries. She is expected to survive her injuries. Another family member, a seven-year-old boy, was also in the house at the time but was not injured during the incident.

Investigators say around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, they went to the home in the 4700 block of Dunlap Road near Miramonte. The 14-year-old had called 911 to describe a break-in and attack on his parents and sister, adding that the suspect fled the scene in a van.

Officers arrived on scene and found the two adults dead as well as an injured 11-year-old girl, who was taken to hospital. Detectives determined there were inconsistencies in the 14-year-old’s story and determined he had made up the story of a burglary. They also established that he used several weapons to attack his family members.

“The evidence ultimately showed that he had fabricated the burglary story,” Sheriff Zanoni said, “and that he was responsible for using multiple weapons to attack his mother, father and sister .”

The motive for these deaths has not been established. On site, almost two days later, the police continued to search for weapons possibly used during the attacks.

“The tragedy of the situation is of such magnitude because two children lost their mother and father due to the actions of their other sibling,” Sheriff Zanoni said.

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Aurelio Flores at (559) 600-8208.
