Tributes were paid by the cast of the series of American comedies Cheers after George Wendt – who played the role of Norm Peterson – died at the age of 76.
Ted Danson, who played the boss of Bar Sam Malone, said he was “devastated to learn that Georgia is no longer with us”.
Kelsey Grammer, who played Frasier Crane before playing in his own spin-off, said in a press release on the deadline: “I think mourning is a private business. But I really liked George. He was loved by millions.”
Wendt played the role of norm in the 275 episodes of Cheers, which took place from 1982 to 93. He won six consecutive nominations to the Emmy for the exceptional support actor in a comedy series.
The actor and actor died peacefully in his sleep at his home early Tuesday morning, said his family.
“George was an adapted father, a beloved friend and confidant to all those who are lucky to have known him. We will miss it forever,” said a representative at the BBC.
‘The sweetest and nicest’ man ‘

“I send all my love to Bernadette and to the children,” added a danson. “It will take me a long time to get used to it. I love you, Georgie.”
Wendt had found some of the actors, including Danson, Grammer, Rhea Perlman and John Ratzenberger, at the Emmy Awards in 2024.
Perlman described Wendt as “the sweetest and nicest man I have ever met”, adding that “he would miss it more than words cannot say”.
And Ratzenberger said that he had “a broken heart to hear about the death of my friend”, noting how they “shared a scene, a lot of laughter and a first row seat at one of the most popular friendships on television”.
Actress Melissa Joan Hart thought about the handful of times they had worked together on the show Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
“He was warm, professional and kind and our cast and our crew were gifted with his presence each time. Rest in peace!” She wrote on Instagram.
“Paradise has become a little funnier.”

Wendt also appeared in several films such as Dreamscape, Forever Young and Gung Ho.
He also appeared as the father of a boy played by Macaulay Culkin in the black or white clip by Michael Jackson, released in 1991.
He had been married to his colleague Bernadette Birkett since 1978, with whom he had three children.
He was also the uncle of actor and actor Jason Sudeikis, who is recently known for having played the main character of the sports comedy Ted Lasso.
“ Concept and Laughter ”
Wendt’s character standard was a bar accustomed to a bar, and was one of the few characters to appear in each episode.
His entry into the bar was a racing gag in the show, starting with him greeting the other customers followed by the crowd that shouted his name.
Speaking 20 years after the end of the show, Wendt said that people had always recognized it because the show had been a unique success.
“I live a few pâtés from the place where friends were killed and where Seinfeld was shot down and I would see the helicopters go through the studio and I think, Wow, I am one of the dozens of people who have a unique perspective on what all these people go through,” he said.
Cheers Boston, the pub that inspired the successful television show, paid tribute by sharing a photo of Norm’s square at the bar on Instagram.
“George was not only an actor – he was a symbol of comfort, laughter and this familiar feeling of walking in a place where everyone knows your name,” they said.
“To George: Thank you for the laughter, the memories and the inheritance you leave behind. You will always have a stool in our bar.”
