Teacher implies student is a 'cyber-terrorist' for challenging class 'whiteness issue'


A University of Chicago teacher has hinted that a student is a ‘cyber-terrorist’ after objecting to a class she was to teach called ‘The Whiteness Problem’.

“In recent years, whiteness has re-emerged as an obvious issue in liberal political discourse,” said the description of a class titled “The Problem of Whiteness”.

The University of Chicago course, which will be taught by fellow teacher Rebecca Journey in the spring of the 2022-2023 school year, uses critical race theory to analyze “whiteness.” The course “examines the problem of whiteness through an anthropological lens, drawing on classic and contemporary works of critical race theory.”

Those who take the course “will approach whiteness as a ‘pigment of the imagination’ with ‘world-making (and shaving) effects’ by ‘interesting in how various forms of social positioning and historical phenomena intersect in the formation of the racial hierarchy. ”

Daniel Schmidt, a student at the University of Chicago, criticized the course on Twitter, calling it a “blatant example” of “anti-white hatred”.

Journey has postponed the course, which is now expected to take place in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 school year. The teacher defended the course and attacked Schmidt in an article by NPR affiliate WBEZ Chicago.

The article, archived hereclaims that Schmidt’s Twitter post helped fuel the “National disinformation campaign against critical race theory.” This too includes statements from Journey, which asserts that Schimdt’s message “was a malicious attack not only on me as a teacher, but on anti-racist pedagogy more broadly.”

She also says she was harassed and threatened by those who heard about the course. Journey blames Schmidt, saying in point-of-sale statement “These attacks are a direct result of this student’s targeted cyberbullying campaign.”

She also alleges he “deliberately misrepresented” the course and said she wanted the University of Chicago to publicly condemn Schmidt’s actions.

Journey defended the course, saying it was not about “white people’s problem”, but rather that it “addresses whiteness as a problem in the philosophical sense of an open question”, viewing “whiteness as an object of critical inquiry”. ”

Journey even went so far as to imply Schmidt is a cyberterrorist, Chicago tells WBEZ “I’m absolutely going ahead with the class as planned” because “We can’t let cyberterrorists win.”

Schmidt responded to Journey’s comments and doubled down on his opposition to the course in a statement to Breitbart News. “Leftists have ruined the lives of countless people they disagree with, nullifying careers and running harassment campaigns,” Schmidt noted.

He went on to say, “But when I publicly expose a blatantly anti-white course at my university and name the professor teaching it, I am a ‘cyber-terrorist’ who the professor says should be publicly condemned by my university. “

‘We all know the truth,’ added the University of Chicago sophomore, adding that the university ‘would have embarked on a months-long apology tour’ if Journey’s course targeted a different racial group .

Schmidt added that he “will not stop” in his fight “against anti-white ideology in universities”.

Journey, whose biography notes that “his work examines how the evolutionary and reformist logics of eugenics ideology drive the aesthetics of green urbanism in contemporary Denmark,” did not respond to a request for comment.

Another course from the University of Chicago, titled “Racial Capitalism,” also uses critical race theory. Students in the course will examine “the history of race and racism in America from the perspective of ‘racial capitalism’ as political economy.”

“The course will trace the development of racial capitalism as a concept within black Marxist thought,” he continues. The description adds, “The course will compare racial capitalism as a political economic approach to race and racism to rival ‘identity’ approaches, including critical whiteness studies and Afro-pessimism.”

The course “The Problem of Whiteness” is just one example of anti-white animosity in academia. Breitbart News previously revealed that an educational journal published a call to “eradicate whiteness” and “send it to its grave”. The academic paper claimed that “letting go of whiteness, destroying it, and sending it to one’s grave” was the “greatest act of love that white people can show”.

Breitbart News also revealed that a director of the university’s department of education wrote an article titled “Dead Honky” in which he called on educators to “commit to realizing the death of whiteness.” The author affirms that “whiteness is itself a violence”.

An article in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association describes being white as “a malignant, parasitic-like condition” for which “there is as yet no permanent cure.”

Meanwhile, a lecturer from Yale University fantasized about perpetrating acts of racial violence, specifically “unloading a gun into the head of anyone white person who gets in my way” and then “burying their bodies …as I made the world one [expletive] foster.” The disturbing lecture was titled “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind.”

A Rutgers University professor remarked that “white people are committed to being bad guys,” also saying, “We need to take out these MF’ers.”

Brittney Cooper, a professor at Rutgers University, is still employed as an associate professor in the Department of Gender and Women’s Sexuality Studies.

In another case, social workers were credited with taking a training called “Recovery from White Conditioning” organized by the University of Minnesota.

“Classics Beyond Whiteness” is a course at Wake Forest University. The course discusses “white supremacy, fragility and privilege” and uses critical race theory.

Meanwhile, colleges across America, including the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, the University of North Texas, and the University of California, San Diego, have hosted “white responsibility groups.”

Neither Journey nor the University of Chicago College Republicans responded to a request for comment.
