Taylor Swift Sits Separately From Brittany Mahomes At Chiefs Game Amid Trump Support Controversy

Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes both cheered on the Kansas City Chiefs during their 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, but they might be on different sides on other issues.

Swift and Mahomes were seen sitting in separate suites at Arrowhead Stadium amid controversy surrounding Mahomes’ recent displays of support for Donald Trump.

Mahomes and Swift used to sit together in suites when Swift began attending games last year after going public with her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce. Seeing the two sit together while making odd gestures during broadcasts became a common fixture at Chiefs games last season.

The two have also been seen together at public events, as the friendship between Mahomes, the wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Swift, Kelce’s girlfriend of more than a year, has become symbolic for the Chiefs in expanding their fan base among women.

But the 2024 season is off to a different start as Mahomes has been embroiled in controversy for expressing his support for Trump through his Instagram activity in recent weeks. Swift was seen in a suite with Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, while Mahomes was sitting in a suite with his daughter, Sterling Skye, as seen in his Instagram Stories.

Mahomes, a 29-year-old pregnant mother, first signaled her support for Trump on Aug. 13 by liking Trump’s Instagram post that outlined the “2024 Republican platform.”

The like sparked a firestorm of criticism against the superstar quarterback’s wife. In fact, the critics included Swift’s fans. Several Swift fan pages posted screenshots of the like on social media, which extended the reach of the backlash.

Mahomes responded to the criticism on his Instagram Stories on August 23.

“I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have deep-rooted issues that you’ve refused to heal since childhood,” she wrote. “There’s no reason your brain should be fully developed and you hate seeing others succeed.”

She then posted another message referencing the situation on Instagram a few days later.

“Contrary to how the world behaves today… you can disagree with someone and still love them. You can have different opinions and still be kind,” she wrote on August 26. “Read that again!”

Last week, she seemed to like two other comments, one that said “TRUMP-VANCE 2024” and another that said “I’m glad to see you’re not backing down. We are all entitled to our own opinions and we shouldn’t be forced to submit.”

Mahomes’ Instagram likes and the resulting attention caught the attention of Trump himself. The former president and current presidential candidate thanked Mahomes in a post on his Truth Social account and praised her and her husband, Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, calling them “a great couple.”

“I want to thank the beautiful Brittany Mahomes “I am so grateful for your fierce defense of me, and for making me realize that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful political movement in the history of our failed Country,” Trump wrote. “With crime and illegal immigration totally out of control, INFLATION ravaging every American, and a world that laughs at the stupidity of our hapless “leaders,” it’s great to see someone who loves our Country and wants to save it from disaster. What a great couple – see you both at the Super Bowl!”

Mahomes’ controversial Instagram “like” doesn’t appear to have caused a divide between her and her husband. On August 31, Brittany’s 29th birthday, Patrick posted a series of photos on Instagram On Saturday, he and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, celebrated her 29th birthday. The slideshow included a group photo of them and their children, 3-year-old daughter Sterling Skye and 1-year-old son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III.

Patrick has never Brittany and Patrick have publicly expressed support for any political figure or political affiliation, telling Time in April that they would not say who they would vote for in the upcoming election. Brittany and Patrick were born and raised in East Texas and began dating while attending Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. Whitehouse is a town of about 8,500 people and has historically voted Republican, according to Data USA.

However, Brittany’s connection with Swift might turn out to be a different story after her recent social media activities.

Although Swift has not officially endorsed a candidate for the 2024 election, she has a long history of political activism on behalf of Democrats.

After Trump’s first election in 2016, Swift revealed her political stance for the first time, endorsing Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections in her family’s home state of Tennessee.

Swift has also publicly supported abortion rights, LGBTQ inclusion, and gun control.

In 2020, Swift officially endorsed Joe Biden for president and condemned Trump’s presidency, calling it “racist” following the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.
