Taylor Swift has said she is “in complete shock” after a stabbing attack at a dance class celebrating the American singer’s music in Southport, England, left two children dead and others injured.

The singer wrote on Instagram: “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport continues to overwhelm me, and I am in complete shock.”

“The loss of human life and innocence, as well as the horrific trauma inflicted on all
“Who was there, families and first responders,” she added. “They were just little kids taking a dance class.”

The rampage stunned Britain and sent police scrambling to determine why such an unusually devastating incident took place in the country, where gun ownership is heavily restricted but knife crime has been described as a “national crisis”.

“I have no idea how to express my sympathy to these families,” Swift wrote in her Instagram post.

Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said six of the injured children were in critical condition and the attack had also left two adults in critical condition.

Kennedy added that police understood the attacker entered the premises armed with a knife and began attacking the children.

“We believe the injured adults were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked,” she said at a news conference Monday evening.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
