Taylor Swift has revealed that she will be releasing her new song Carolina at midnight tonight.

On Thursday, the 32-year-old singer-songwriter took to his Instagram Story to tease the debut of the new track, which is from the soundtrack to Sony Pictures’ upcoming film Where The Crawdads Sing.

‘Carolina. Midnight,’ Taylor wrote over an image of trees along a river, adding a short audio snippet of the song.

In her caption, Taylor shared her excitement for the film and the source material. She revealed that she wrote the song solo with Folklore and Evermore collaborator Aaron Dessner producing the track.

“Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I completely lost myself in when I read it years ago,” Taylor wrote.

“As soon as I heard a movie was in the works starring the amazing @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it on the musical side.”

She continued, “I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it.

“I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this compelling story. You’ll hear it soon, but for now, watch the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!

A slightly longer clip of the song was featured in the film’s second trailer, which was released in May.

According to Variety, Reese and Olivia shared additional information about Carolina during a panel discussion on the film that aired live on June 17.

The director said Taylor “wrote us this wonderful letter” and “out of the blue” submitted it to the film’s production team.

She added that it was recorded using instruments available before 1953 depending on the time period the film is set. Carolina was also recorded in one take, as was standard with songs of the time.

“The first time I listened to it, I just started screaming and said, ‘I don’t know what’s happening to me right now,'” Olivia said.

‘I mean, I love to sing along to Taylor Swift songs but I never cry like that.’

Reese explained the backstory of how the pop superstar was inspired to write the track.

‘She read that book and loved it so much, then she heard we were making a movie [during the period] she was doing her Folklore album, and then she wrote a song with this whole Folklore crew, which was so haunting and magical and beautiful,” the Big Little Lies actress said.

Olivia added, “She was gone and wrote this song out of pure inspiration and sort of said, ‘I don’t know if you’ll like it, but here it is.

The director has confirmed that Carolina will perform over the end credits of the film. She explained that they wanted the tone of the film’s ending to match that of the book’s conclusion.

“We wanted to leave the audience with the same kind of emotional feeling,” Olivia said.

“And his song just leans into that.”

Where The Crawdads Sing hits theaters on July 15.
