Taylor Swift Adds ‘Department of Tortured Poets’ Songs to Eras Tour

Eras tour participants, welcome to “The Department of Tortured Poets”.

On Thursday evening, during Taylor Swift’s Paris concert – kicking off the record-breaking tour’s European leg and her first concert since the album’s release – the pop icon performed several of her new songs live at La Défense Arena, starting with “But dad, I love him”. .” She then sang “So High School” and “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” while standing atop a glass block that moved across the stage. “Down Bad”, “Fortnight” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” followed, with “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” marking the segment’s finale.

Swift kicked off the show with her usual opener, “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” performing songs from her “Lover” and “Fearless” eras. Then, she changed the established order, performing the tracks “Red”, “Speak Now” and “Reputation”, instead of moving into “Evermore”, as she had done on the previous part of the tour . “Folklore” followed “Reputation,” accompanied by new visuals featuring a snake slithering through the grass.

The singer announced that she had always considered “Folklore” and “Evermore” to be sister albums and would combine them into “one chapter” during the show, stating: “We have now brought the sisters together.” She then performed songs from both albums before moving into “1989.”

After “1989”, new visuals incorporating clock imagery then signaled a transition to “The Department of Tortured Poets”. Swift reappeared on stage wearing a white dress with writing on it.

After “The Tortured Poets Department” era, Swift performed “Paris” and “Loml” as surprise songs during her acoustic set.

Ever since Swift announced she would be releasing a brand new album in the middle of the Eras tour, fans have been wondering how she would include it in the setlist. Some predicted the record would mark an entirely new era, while others thought it might just represent it in the surprise song portion of the series.

“The Tortured Poets Department” was released on April 19, and Swift surprised fans with a double album consisting of 31 songs. It debuted with 2.61 million units, the best single-week figure for an album in nine years. The album also took the top 14 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Swift the first artist to do so. “Fortnight,” his duet with Post Malone, took first place.

“The Department of Tortured Poets” also received critical acclaim, with VarietyChris Willman’s Chris Willman calls it “bold” and “fascinating.” He wrote that the album “gives everyone a full dose of the Taylor that never gets over and that no one really wanted to get over.” As breakup albums go, it’s a doozy, as one would have said in the Clara Bow era – an unapologetically dramatic (if often witty) record that would serve as the soundtrack to countless tragic breakups to come.

After three more dates in Paris, Swift continues the European leg of the Eras Tour in Stockholm, Sweden, before finishing with five dates in London in August.
