Tatum earns All-NBA honors, but Jaylen Brown isn’t so lucky
Celtics
Jaylen Brown was a second-team All-NBA selection last season.
For the third straight season, Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum earned a spot on the All-NBA First Team.
But unlike last season, Tatum was not joined by teammate Jaylen Brown on the list of 15 All-NBA selections this year.
The NBA released the results of the All-NBA voting on Wednesday, with Tatum sharing first-team All-NBA honors alongside Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic. Tatum now has four total All-NBA selections in his career.
Brown was on the outside looking in and eyeing a third-team selection, finishing just 20 points behind Suns guard Devin Booker for the final spot in that five-player group.
Although Tatum’s scoring has declined this season on a deep Celtics team (30.1 points per game in 2023 to 26.9 this season), he has rounded out his overall game while becoming a more efficient scorer.
In addition to shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, Tatum averaged a career-high 4.9 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game. The 26-year-old forward is already eligible for a super-max extension this summer — expected to be worth up to $315 million over five years after earning a first-team All-NBA selection last season.
Brown, who was named to the All-NBA second team last season, is averaging 23.0 points. 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game this year. The 27-year-old swingman signed a record super max extension last season with Boston after earning All-NBA honors.
The All-NBA Second Team included Jalen Brunson, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards and Kawhi Leonard, while the All-NBA Third Team included Booker, Steph Curry, Tyrese Haliburton, LeBron James and Domantas Sabonis.
