“Our Executive Chef has created some really great recipes, seasoning them with fresh ingredients like garlic and herbs to enhance flavor while minimizing sodium. Our plan is to rotate all menus every 4-5 months to keep things seasonal,” said Steve King, Executive Director of Meals On Wheels.

The new diabetic menu is monitored in carbohydrates. The renal menu has lower levels of sodium, potassium and phosphorus and provides a source of quality protein at every meal. All meals are offered in regular, chopped or pureed form, to meet the changing needs of Tampa’s housebound and elderly neighbors. In a recent survey of recipients, diabetic and kidney menus were the most requested additions to current heart-healthy meals.
