talkSPORT betting tips – Best tennis bets and acca for the Monte Carlo Masters

The ATP Monte Carlo Masters has reached the round of 16 and most of the big names are holding strong in Monaco, including two-time champion Novak Djokovic and Australian Open hero Jannik Sinner.

All eight Round of 16 matches take place on Thursday with Djokovic and Sinner naturally short-priced to defeat Lorenzo Musetti and Jan-Lennard Struff respectively, while the tie of the round is arguably the clash between Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Ruud wakes up for Estoril champion Hurkacz

Two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud hasn’t always been at his best in Monte Carlo, but he’s a top-notch player on clay when in the mood and looks a decent bet to defeat Hubert Hurkacz.

Hurkacz arrived in Monte Carlo after one of the most encouraging clay court performances of his life, winning the Estoril Open title, but a 27-27 career win-loss record on the surface offers a better indication of its difficulties in slower conditions.

Ruud, meanwhile, has featured in most tournaments this season and he looked in good form in a 6-2 6-4 win over Alejandro Tabilo in his first match in Monte Carlo.

Humbert can continue to improve

Lorenzo Sonego leads Ugo Humbert 2-0 in the clay court head-to-heads, but it’s Humbert who fully deserves to be favorite given his recent form.

The Frenchman has had an excellent start to the 2024 season, winning titles in Marseille and Dubai, and although his best results have generally come on faster courts, he won two Challenger Tour titles on clay last season .

Sonego is falling in the rankings. His record against Humbert gives him a chance and he beat him on these courts last season, but there is no doubt who is the superior player right now.

Medvedev will relieve his compatriot Khachanov

Daniil Medvedev only found Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner too strong in Indian Wells and Miami, losing in the final in California and the semi-final in Florida, and he is expected to continue his Monte Carlo dreams with a victory over Karen Khachanov.

Medvedev is not a natural player on clay, but he won the Italian Open last season and there was much to like in his second round victory over the resurgent Gaël Monfils.

His compatriot Khachanov remains a solid player, but he has only won one of five clashes with his compatriot.

High-level clash could go Tsitsipas’ way

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev meet for the 15th time in an ATP competition and it could be Greek star Tsitsipas who claims victory on his beloved clay.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Tsitsipas, who seems to be going backwards on other surfaces, but he destroyed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-1 6-0 in the final round and he’s ultra comfortable in Monte Carlo, where he resides . and where he won this title twice.

Tsitsipas leads Zverev 9-5 in head-to-head matches and has won four of their five clay-court clashes.
