Titans should turn the screw at Ahmedabad Fortress

Gujarat Titans have won five of their last six IPL matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the exception was a heartbreaking defeat against Chennai Super Kings in last season’s final.

Chennai scored 10 runs off Mohit Sharma’s last two deliveries to clinch the title, but Mohit and his fellow Gujarat bowlers made a good start to the new campaign.

They staged a comeback against Mumbai, who had reached 103-2 chasing a 169 for victory before losing by six runs.

And Gujarat enjoyed home advantage again in Sunday’s win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had smashed an IPL record total of 277-3 earlier in the week.

The Titans brought the Hyderabad batsmen back down to earth, restricting them to 162-8, with player of the match Mohit taking 3-25 from his four overs.

Punjab beat Delhi Capitals in their opening match of the season but struggled in subsequent defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants and they look ill-equipped for a tough trip to Gujarat.

Miller capable of intermediate order chaos

New Gujarat captain Shubman Gill was the top scorer in the IPL last season but was overshadowed by teammates Sai Sudharsan and David Miller in the first three matches of 2024.

Sudharsan, who made 96 in last year’s final, has made 45, 37 and 45 in his first three innings this season and South Africa’s middle-order man Miller is an eye-catching prize for get the Titans’ best score.

The highly experienced left-hander was part of the Gujarat team that won the IPL at the first attempt in 2022. He scored 21 runs – the second highest contribution of the innings – in last week’s defeat at Chennai, then notched an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls against the Sunrisers.

Punjab youngster all set for another explosive appearance

Punjab openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow shared a century stand against Lucknow on Sunday before the Kings stumbled in their chase.

Number three Prabhsimran Singh burned bright during his short stay at the crease, hitting two sixes in a cameo stand of 19 from seven deliveries, and he should be backed to reach 20 against Gujarat.

The 23-year-old scored 26 off 17 and 25 off 17 in his first two appearances of the campaign and his breakthrough 2023 season included a brilliant century against Delhi when the second highest score of the Punjab innings was that of Sam Curran 20.
