Neil Callan’s Booked Rides – Kempton April 6

Callan has a good chance of featuring strongly in Premier Raceday at Sunbury on Saturday afternoon.

He added: “I’m going to Kempton with three rides, but I’m leaving with three strong mounted.

“The weather has obviously been a challenge, but we’re looking forward to the next couple of weeks with the Craven Meeting at Newmarket approaching. For me, this is the real start of the season. We’ll get into that more next week!”

Cemhaan

Cemhaan is the highest rated and highest weighted horse in the Rosebery Handicap.

The gelding is returned to travel at 1m3f for the first time since June 2021.

Callan explained: “I have a horse for George Baker that I won on last season, Cemhaan. He knows the track very well, he loves Kempton.

“He’s probably better a little further out, but he’s more than capable, with plenty of speed, of handling the descent at a mile and three. A very, very maneuverable horse.

“He finished third at Royal Ascot last season so he’s more than capable and he’s in good form. I’m hoping for a big race from him.”

Ahlain

Ahlain is the shortest prize of Callan’s three races on Saturday.

The three-year-old filly has already performed well this season with a victory here over 7f in February.

She was then fourth when progressing in a Listed Race at Lingfield in March and was only just behind the top three on that occasion.

It represents a strong opportunity for the trainer at the top of his form and of massive interest up to 1m.

Callan explained: “I have a filly for James Tate, Ahlain, a rather good filly. She had a good career, in a listed company during her last departure.

“This filly is very strong, and I think she has a good run. I think the small field on this one will play to her strengths if it becomes tactical, I think that could do her very well here .”

Watchya features in a field of 12 runners in the London Sprint Series Qualifer, the Fives Handicap over 6f.

The gray gelding, by Dark Angel, has visible abilities in his two Class 4 handicap victories in 2022.

The five-year-old has moved up and down in weights, even performing very well at Lingfield in a Listed Race in 2023 and he may surprise a few if he finds that form here.

His jockey explains: “This horse is a bit frustrating. He is very capable but at the moment he is a bit stuck between rides between five and six o’clock, we don’t know exactly what his best distance is.

“But on the day he is more than capable if the cards work out for him.”
