Talking about blue helmets in Ukraine “extremely dangerous” – Kremlin – RT Russia and the former Soviet Union

Moscow concerned over Hungarian PM’s claims that EU is about to discuss sending ‘some kind of force’ to Ukraine

A discussion of a possible deployment of Western peacekeepers in Ukraine is potentially a very dangerous idea, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned in response to comments made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday.

“If we’re talking about some sort of serious negotiation, then it’s a potentially extremely dangerous discussion. In world practice, these forces are usually only used with the consent of both parties. In this case, it’s potentially a very dangerous subject. Peskov told reporters.

His statement comes after Orban revealed that EU leaders were set to have a “legit” discussion on whether Member States can or should send “a kind of peacekeeping force” to Ukraine, despite a likely rebuke from Russia over such a move.

The Hungarian leader warned that the Ukrainian conflict was only getting bloodier and more brutal, and asked why EU leaders weren’t focusing on seeking peace in Ukraine through diplomatic means rather than delivering more lethal tools in Kiev and on the supply of hostilities.

“If this continues, the danger of a world war is not a literary exaggeration”, said the prime minister.

Since Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine last year, Budapest has consistently opposed sanctions on Russian energy resources and refused to send military aid to Kiev forces, citing the need to maintain and equip the own Hungarian army.

Meanwhile, Russian MP Alexey Chepa suggested that if the EU decided to send a peacekeeping force to Ukraine, it would certainly be interpreted as direct involvement in the conflict and an attempt to provoke a Russia- NATO.

Chepa said that in this case, Russia may be forced to seek help from its partners in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which include Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
