Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is now available on Switch, but with suboptimal performance, many fans are eagerly awaiting its eventual release on Switch 2.
In a new interview with Traxion, series producer Takashi Iizuka explained why the game needed more time before launching on Switch 2, and his reasoning is pretty much in line with what we expected. Apparently the Switch 2 launch date of June 5, 2025 meant that the development team simply needed more time to properly optimize the game.
“We wanted to release the Switch 2 version at the same time (like the other platforms).
“But since the console release date was later, we wanted to make sure we could deliver a game that optimized for the new console.”
Nonetheless, Iizuka emphasizes that the game will achieve content parity with other platforms, including the Switch. One reason for this was cross-play compatibility, with Iizuka stating “it’s important that people get the same level of experience no matter what console they’re using.”
It has not yet been confirmed whether CrossWorlds will reach a maximum resolution of 4K on the Switch 2, but we expect gameplay at 60fps at a minimum. Only time will tell, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see exactly how the game performs on Nintendo’s new console.
