Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest should be released from a coma induced Wednesday after an urgent surgical intervention on a serious abdominal injury suffered in the Sunday match against Leicester.
The Nigeria striker was injured after colliding with a post during the 2-2 draw on the city’s field, after which the owner of the forest, Evangelos Marinakis, stormed the field.
The forest plans that Woniyi will recover completely, although it is not clear when it is released from the hospital. He underwent surgery on Monday. It was a medical decision to place Awoniyi in the induced coma to stabilize its condition and for the own 27 -year comfort.
Awoniyi returned to the field on Sunday after a long treatment after the 88th minute incident. Awoniyi slammed against a position to try to meet the Cross of Anthony Elaga. Elaga was in an offside position when he collected the ball, but the assistant referee only raised his flag after the collision of Awoniyi, in accordance with the board of directors of the International Football Association (IFAB).
In a Tuesday statement, Forest said that Marinakis’ decision to go to the field came from his frustration in the face of the incident, who had left Forest, who had used all their authorized substitutes, with 10 men for the closing phases. A draw has descended his hopes to qualify for the Champions League.
“The deep frustration of his (Marinakis) to see our player lying on the ground in intense pain – something that no one with real treatments could ignore – pushed him to go on the field,” he read. “He would do the same if such an unhappy one was even to reproduce.”

Forest also challenged suggestions that Marinakis had a confrontation with the head coach, Nuno EspĂrito Santo, after entering the field. “There was only a shared frustration between us all that the medical team should never have allowed the player to continue,” the statement said.
