Speedway star’s wife Tai Woffinden said her husband is fighting ” when she shed light on the injuries that changed life suffered a crash that left her in a coma.
Woffinden, 34, of Scunthorpe, was involved in a collision with his teammate of the Rzeszow Club during a race in Poland.
He was transported by plane to Krosno hospital for emergency treatment while the meeting was then abandoned.
Club officials confirmed that Woffinden had undergone several fractures and an injury to his chest during the stack.
Woffinden was to return to the United Kingdom to compete for the Sheffield Tigers in the British Speedway Première against Birmingham on Thursday evening.

Woffinden is currently in an induced coma after having crashed in Poland on Sunday
She said, “Our brave boy is there with us! Fight, heal and rest.
“Tai has gone through more than we can even start to imagine it.
“Several broken bones, major surgeries, blood transfusions – his body has so much endured.
“And yet his mind remains strong. Our hope too. We hold closely, believing that every day will bring us more healing, more strength and more of him.
“Whoever knows Tai knows how open, honest and life he is.
“When he is ready, he will share his story in his own way. But at the moment, his only work is to rest, heal and find the strength to pass through it.
“The love, the kindness and the support that we have received from you were overwhelming in the most beautiful way. There are really no words to express how deeply we are.
“While we hesitate to name individuals for fear of missing anyone, we want to thank the deepest on those who played a role in the safeguard of Tai.

One of the country’s most prosperous runners, Woffinden won three world titles in the Grand Prix in 2013, 2015 and 2018, and also finished second in 2016 and 2020.
He joined Sheffield in 2024 after driving previously for Scunthorpe, Rye House, Poole and Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom.
