In the end, Canada came out on top and continued its first successful appearance at the Copa América.

Ten minutes later, Shaffelburg was close to scoring a second goal, but his shot just missed the target to keep the score at 1-0. Canada had another golden opportunity to score a few minutes after Shaffelburg’s missed shot.

While the first half was all Canadian, Venezuela started the second half with a bang, scoring the equalizer in the 63rd minute when Salomón Rondón scored on the counterattack.

Shortly after Venezuela’s equalizer, Canada once again narrowly missed scoring.

With neither team able to score before the end of extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout, although the first set was not enough as both teams scored three. Venezuela missed its shot in sudden death, while Canada scored its penalty to clinch the victory and move into the tie.
