Some T -Mobile customers during last week have been surprised to discover a new feature – and activated by default – in the T -Life application called “Screen Recording Tool”. In light of recent uncertain recording tools such as Microsoft REMINDER AI Functionality in Windows, by seeing a functionality that saves the content of your screen is required to raise confidentiality problems.
How to deactivate the screen recording tool if you see it
If you are a T-Mobile subscriber, you can check if this new option has been activated by opening the T-Life app, typing Manage then press Parameters (THE Equipment icon). THE Screen recording tool The option appears under the Preferences title.
If the option is there, press to reveal a description and a rocking switch. The description is read as follows: “We use a tool to save how customers use the application to analyze and improve your experience. Only T-Mobile will examine and analyze your information. If you turn on this rocking or magenta, we will record your screen while you use the application. If you turn off this rocking or gray, we will not record your screen.”
To deactivate the functionality, press the switch so that it becomes gray. (The “magenta” and the “gray” in the text refer to the color of the rocking switch to indicate whether it is active or not, respectively.)
Why is T-Mobile behind the new feature
When I contacted the company for more information, a T-Mobile spokesperson defended the functionality, saying that it had been designed to improve the user experience.
“To help us offer customers who use a more fluid experience, we unfold a new tool in the application that will quickly help us solve or detect problems,” said the spokesperson. “This tool records activities in the application only and does not see any more personal information. If the T-Life application of a customer currently supports the new features, it can be deactivated in the preferences.”
According to an article on droidlifeWho previously referred to the problem, the new option appears on iPhone and Android phones.
Why opt-in is so important
At first glance, the screen recording tool seems to do what it says, and the fact that it is limited to the T-Life application is a reasonable and expected limitation.
But as with all potential confidentiality problems, the fact that T-Mobile allows the functionality by default has rendered suspicious customers. It should be extinguished initially, and if a problem arises which would require a screen recording, the company could obtain the authorization of the owner of the phone to activate it.
T-Mobile actually has a similar configuration in the T-Life application. There is another screen recording function which is completely distinct from this new screen recording tool. In the application settings, under Help and supportis screen sharing, which can be used during an assistance call. It allows a T-Mobile expert to view the screen of your phone while helping a problem. It requires several steps and forces you to consent to recording your screen before allowing an expert in support to connect to the application.
If you have already tried to help a friend or family member by phone and asked him to describe what is on the screen, you will appreciate how useful it can be See what they see directly.
