Sydney Airport: dramatic moment, a man runs on the tarmac and tries to board an international flight through the hold

Dramatic video has been released showing the moment a man attempted to board an international flight through the hold after running onto the tarmac.

The incident occurred at Sydney Airport around 3 p.m. on Friday, when the man reportedly passed through immigration controls on the tarmac and attempted to board a Sri Lankan Airlines plane.

Australian Federal Police (AFP officers were seen arresting the man, dressed in a red and white shirt, as he clung to the bars of a loading platform near of the plane’s open cargo door.

Airline staff tried to free the man’s arms from the bars while AFP officers pulled on his legs, eventually dragging him to the ground as he continued to scream.

Witnesses said the man ran through the immigration control area and towards the airport tarmac while being pursued by AFP officers, a reported the Daily Telegraph.

The man is believed to have been suffering from a mental health issue.

An AFP spokesperson said the man was believed to have run through the immigration control zone before entering “restricted areas”.

“AFP agents intercepted the man on the apron,” said the spokesperson.

“The man was transferred to hospital for assessment, where he remains.”

The man was issued a court summons for violating airside areas and banned from the airport for 12 months.
