A travel agency co-owned by missing Britons Juan Cifuentes and Farooq Abdulrazak confirmed that Mr Abdulrazak had died.

The business partners, from north London, travelled to Denmark on Saturday for a work trip and were due to return to the UK on Sunday evening but did not.

The Metropolitan Police have said they are investigating whether the discovery of two bodies in a burnt-out car in Sweden is linked to the disappearance of two Londoners earlier this week.

The official Empire Holidays Instagram account posted a message saying: “It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that the owner of Empire Holidays (Farooq) has sadly passed away.”

The families of the two men have appealed for information, fearing they may be the people whose bodies were found with gunshot wounds in an industrial area in the city of Malmö on Sunday.

Speaking on X, formerly Twitter, a spokesperson for the Hertfordshire club said everyone there “is saddened and shocked”.

“Juan was part of our double-winning team in 2014-15. He was a very good player and a great person.

“We send our condolences to all his family, friends and former teammates. RIP Juan.”

Swedish police said the victims were shot dead on Sunday and then the Toyota Rav4 was set on fire.

Police say they are still working to identify the bodies and have interviewed several witnesses.

A Swedish police spokesman said: “The two people found dead in a burnt-out car on Sunday afternoon have not yet been identified.

“The bodies are being forensically examined. The incident is currently being investigated as a murder.”
