Suspected serial killer ‘confessed’ to killing 42 women in Kenya, police say | Crime News

Police said nine bodies had been recovered so far and autopsies were underway in Nairobi.

The main suspect arrested following the discovery of mutilated women’s bodies in a Nairobi dump has confessed to killing 42 women, Kenyan police say.

“The suspect confessed to luring, killing and dumping 42 women’s bodies at the dumping site,” Criminal Investigation Directorate head Mohamed Amin told reporters on Monday.

“We are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,” Amin said earlier after announcing the arrest.

He also said a second suspect, who was caught in possession of a cellphone belonging to a victim, had also been arrested.

Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the main suspect, aged 33, was arrested around 3am local time (0000 GMT) near a bar in a joint operation by the Criminal Investigation Directorate and the National Police Service.

He said a total of nine bodies had been recovered so far and autopsies of the victims would be carried out on Monday.

A video posted on social media also shows police presenting several pieces of evidence apparently linked to the alleged killer.

Since Friday, mutilated and dismembered bodies, packed in plastic bags, have been removed from dumpsites in the Mukuru shantytown, south of the capital, horrifying the country.

Police said on Sunday that all nine people found were women.

Tensions were running high at the crime scene over the weekend as angry residents were dispersed by police firing tear gas.

The findings also shed light on Kenyan police and increased pressure on President William Ruto, who is struggling to contain a crisis sparked by widespread anti-government protests that have seen dozens of demonstrators killed.

The protests were sparked after the government raised taxes as people struggled with the cost of living crisis.
