A 22-year-old man was killed on Thursday January 2, 2025, square de Slovakie, in the Blosne district. The Rennes public prosecutor’s office indicates that a suspect was arrested on a search warrant in Marseille two days later, confirming information from Ouest-France. Brought back to Rennes, he was brought to the courthouse this Monday, January 6, where he was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention.
On Thursday, emergency services were called at 8:40 p.m. to assist an individual who had a chest wound, noted by the emergency services. Despite resuscitation attempts, the victim, also aged 22, died on the spot, without the weapon being found. An investigation was then opened for murder and entrusted to the Rennes Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS). The individual was quickly identified in the South before being arrested by the Marseille Bac.
Placed together in police custody a few days before the events
The young man is “particularly known to the judicial authorities for all types of offenses (attacks on property and people, traffic offenses, drug trafficking)”, explains Frédéric Teillet, public prosecutor. Latest conviction to date, pronounced on July 19, 2024 by the Rennes criminal court: ten months in prison, a sentence “entirely adapted in the form of an electronic bracelet”.
Before the investigating judge, he admitted to having had a dispute with the victim and set fire to his car the day before. The two men had also been placed in police custody together, a few days earlier, in Morbihan. According to his statements, he acted “in self-defense” by striking with an iron rod found on site, the victim having first attacked him. The events took place at the foot of the building of the young deceased, who was also unfavorably known to the courts. According to a witness, the suspect went there to “settle scores”.
This murder, the first of 2025 in the Breton capital, follows other attacks of this type in recent months. On December 29, 2024, two men were injured by stab wounds in another neighborhood, on the Kennedy slab, in Villejean. Gunshots were also heard. And on Sunday January 5, shots were fired again in the Villejean district. Automatic weapon fire in broad daylight, which caused no injuries, in a place known to be a deal point.
